Acquire help! Free public services available at the Montclair Public Library

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A trio of utilities was recently launched or rebooted at the Montclair Public Library. These services are free and can be booked as individual appointments. Two of the services (Access Navigator and Social Work Intern) are also available without an appointment.

Patrons looking for personalized help with improving their digital literacy, looking for a new job, or developing new skills in general can schedule an appointment with the library’s Access Navigator.

Launched in January and running through 2022, an Access Navigator will be available every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Main Library, to work with patrons on setting and achieving their goals. Anyone wishing to participate in the program will begin with an Access Navigator-guided assessment to develop a personal plan.

To schedule an appointment with the Access Navigator, contact the referral office at 973-744-0500 ext. 2234 or 2235. The Navigator is also available without an appointment, first come, first served.

The Montclair Public Library is one of 12 public libraries selected to participate in the New Jersey Library Association’s Access Navigators program. The libraries were selected following a rigorous application process and span nine counties in New Jersey. A cohort of qualified trainers (navigators) rotate through the 12 participating libraries, to provide one-on-one assistance to people seeking employment, vocational training or digital skills.

The Access Navigators program is supported by American Recovery Plan Act (ARPA) funds, received by the New Jersey State Library (NJSL), through the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).

Social work intern

Launching in November 2021 and running through early April, patrons can speak with a social work intern from Montclair State University every Tuesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Main Library. Stop by to chat or ask questions about helpful services, including resume writing, college information and resources, emotional development and coping skills, employment assistance, and career management. time.

Notary services

After a hiatus during the pandemic, the Library resumed notary services in October 2021. Notary services are available by appointment only, between 10:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday in the Main Library. Customers should call 973-744-0500 ext. 2221 in advance to program a time.

Customers must bring photo ID. The corresponding form must be completed but not signed; customers must sign in front of the notary. If witnesses are required, clients must bring them to the appointment. The notary cannot provide legal advice or advice regarding the documents. The notary reserves the right to refuse the service.
