Amos Decker is a former professional football player whose career was ended by a terrible hit. Now a police detective, Amos is still haunted by a side effect from the accident he can never forget. One night Decker comes home from a stakeout to find his wife, young daughter and brother-in-law horrifically murdered. Never a dull moment, never any wasted words or passages, great characterisations, effortless non-contrived narrative build and increasing pace leaves you with only one action - you must kept reading! Absolutely brilliant.

    I couldn't put this book down, amazing story telling with lots of twists and turns. I also learnt a lot reading this book, so a real bonus. Decker is a 6' 5" ex police detective who has nearly given up on life after his family were brutally murdered. I imagined him differently to how he is later described. Although he has no empathy, I felt a real empathy for him as the story progressed. Great read, just starting the next book.
